HEY FRIENDS!!

For those who didn't get a primeape print before they sold out, a second print run will be available for purchase

until May 11th.  They're nice, limited edition prints selling for $40.00 each, which is a pretty nice deal.

The other artists have some fantastic prints for sale, too.

OH, and for any interested parties, I post a lot more frequently over on Tumblr.

You can see some in-progress stuff and quick sketches over there that I don't post to blogger.

Be well, people!  Enjoy your Wednesday comics!

KETCHUM ALL

This week I did my piece for the Pokemon  Battle Royale show at the Light Grey Art Gallery.  Each of the 151 gen-one pokemon will be depicted by a different illustrator.  There's some real talent in that show, people have done cool things.

I got Primeape.  So I drew this:

I never played any of the games, but for a while during middle school I'd make my littlest brother watch the show with me and pretend I was doing him a favor.

MOEBIUS

Finally found a minute to pay my respects to Jean Girard who passed away last week.

Moebius is one of the people who made comics a place I wanted to be.  He brought the surreal, the strange, the disturbing into comics, and his influence has spread like a strange alien lichen across the breadth of the medium, beautifying and changing everything it touched.

He made comics a place where wild and wonderful things can grow, a garden of horrors and delights where artists can create with absolute freedom.  He broke down the wall around the garden, let it run riot, and left it for us.

I hope he's passed on to a place just as strange and fabulous as the worlds he left behind.

FANART FRIDAY: TORIYAMA AKIRA and THE BOOK OF THREE

Anthony and I are still studying the work of Toriyama Akira.  This week: Dragon's Quest.  You can check out his inspired interpretation HERE.

Also I maybe pretended like he was Taran from the Prydain Chronicles while I was drawing him.  Just a little bit.

Drawing this was the most fun I have had all week.  When I was a kid I drew little generic fantasy dudes with swords ALL THE TIME, but when I got 'serious' about art in college I kind of stopped.

That was a mistake.  I freaking love dudes with swords.

FANART FRIDAY: TORIYAMA AKIRA

Don't pretend that you weren't freaking GLUED to this show when you were twelve.

ALSO.

A dear friend of mine has a very different perspective on this that will enrich your life.

FANART FRIDAY: SAILOR TWAIN or "The Mermaid in the Hudson"

I could not possibly communicate to you how much I love this comic.

But I will try anyway.

My little sister told me to read Mark Siegel's SAILOR TWAIN.  So I did.  It was THE BEST decision I made that week.  Sailor Twain is a careful, deliberate, brilliantly handled story of love, loss, mystery, and mermaids.  The restraint and delicacy with which the story is revealed over the hundreds of pages that currently make up Sailor Twain is astounding.  There are few people working in any medium that can tell a story like Siegel.

It's really good comics, people.  And, amazingly, it is currently FREE online.

So... read it.

You may start

I like Sailor Twain so much I drew a picture about it.

And here's some detail, 'cause we all love that.

Seriously though.

Read this comic.

If you don't, you will feel foolish about it one day.

FANART FRIGGIN FRIDAY: CHRONO TRIGGER

So Sam Bosma's been posting all manner of wunnerful video game fanart, which made me feel the itch.  Here's a quick pass at Crono.

Trying to subdue Akira Toriyama's INCOMPREHENSIBLYWILDDESIGNS into something I can actually draw was really fun.

SPERA AND FORTHCOMING GOODNESS

CITIZENS OF EARTH:

HAPPY

NEW

YEAR
.

It is going to be a good one.  At least on this blog.  So far I am knee deep in great projects for 2012.  For example.  Here's a pin-up I did for the second volume of SPERA.

I believe the first volume is now on sale.  If I were you, I would check it out. It was made by talented people, and I'm beyond pleased that I got to toss some art onto it.

Here's a detail of those pretty pretty princesses.

Enjoy your freshly minted new year.

More to come.
